Mongar Tsechu Festival Tour - 11 Days

Bhutan's festivals are based on the lunar calendar.  The eighth/ ninth month of the lunar calendar is when the Mongar Tshechu celebration is primarily held.  Thus, October or November are the primary months for the festival.

The occasion takes place at Mongar Dzong. The dzong is in the eastern part of Bhutan. Mongar is a beautiful place, known for its vibrant culture.

Mask dances are mainly performed by monks. It is also called Cham dance. The mask dance is done to honor Guru Rinpoche for his contribution to Buddhism in Bhutan. Due to this mask dance is a significant activity during the Mongar Tshechu festival.

The Mongar Tshechu festival lasts for 3 days. Each day has different cultural rituals and performances that are performed. 

The festival starts early in the morning. The traditional rituals like mask dance and Throngdel start early in the morning. So it is suggested to arrive at the Mongar Dzong early in the morning at about 8 AM.
