FAQs for Bhutan Adventure & Luxury: For a Special Milestone Event

GENERAL

Bhutan visit is more expensive than other countries due to various reasons. In order to make Bhutan tours seem more costly, the Bhutanese government has implemented an all-inclusive overnight rate structure for all visitors. It follows a special tourism policy known as “High Value, Low Volume”. It means that it welcomes few tourists but offers the best travel experience. To support all these policies of Bhutan, any individual visiting Bhutan must pay the Sustainable Development Fee, which is 100 USD per person. You must book your trip only through licensed tour operators, which include all the essential costs of your visit.

The best time of the year to visit Bhutan is spring and autumn. These seasons have pleasant weather and temperatures suitable for traveling. If you are planning to visit in the autumn, then visit between mid-September to November. And for a spring visit, you can plan this trip between March to May. These months are also ideal for hiking as flowers are in full bloom, which multiplies the beauty of the place.

There will not be any kind of problem related to altitude in Bhutan for the majority of the visitors because the altitudes of our tour packages don't exceed 3500 meters above sea level. Altitude has to be carefully taken into consideration while trekking in Bhutan.

The Packing list depends on the season you travel to Bhutan. It's extremely necessary to carry warm clothes like a down jacket, sweaters, if you visit in winter. Don't forget to pack comfortable footwear, sun cream, sunglasses, and a raincoat to make your journey smooth. Layered clothing is recommended to cope with the uncertain weather of the mountain.

No! It is not possible for you to get a visa to Bhutan unless you have a land trip itinerary booked with a licensed and approved tour operator and have paid the required nightly all-inclusive government price. To preserve its rigorous culture and ecological values, the Bhutanese government steers clear of independent tourists. Nonetheless, you have a great deal of freedom to explore local marketplaces and villages, engage with locals however you like, and enjoy the trip. You can set up your private tour; you don't have to go with another group; it just needs to be planned and paid for in advance.

ARRIVAL AND VISA

You need a visa and all necessary permits for your trip. These documents can not be received on the day of your arrival, so they must be processed before coming here. After you book a trip with us, we will manage these papers for you. Your Bhutan visa is arranged by Orrog as part of the package.

The main way to come to Bhutan is through Paro International Airport, which is well-connected to cities like Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, and Singapore. Most people arrive by air, but if you plan to come via road, you can enter through Phuentsholing, located on the southern border with India, which is the most commonly used entry point.

It is recommended to apply for the visa at least 20 days before your planned departure date so that there is enough time for processing your Bhutan visa, finalizing your itinerary, and arranging your guides and transportation. Although visa processing itself is relatively fast once payment is received, early preparation helps avoid delays and ensures availability, especially during peak seasons (spring and autumn).

You don’t require a passport-size photo for the visa, but it is wise to carry at least 2–4 recent passport-sized photographs during your trip. These may be needed for local permits, registration, or when applying for a local SIM card upon arrival in Bhutan.

Yes, you can lengthen your stay in Bhutan either before or after your trip. Bhutan’s tourism model requires visitors to pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) and a daily package cost, so any extra days will involve additional charges. Extensions are a great opportunity to explore cultural sites in Paro, Thimphu, or even add another short trip or day hike.
