Day by day breakdown of the trek
Day 1: Paro to Jele Dzong
Exploring the incredible natural beauty and culture of Bhutan, offers a great walking holiday in an unspoilt country on this classic trail. The trip to the magical valley town of Paro - home to Bhutan's only international airport is your first step into this Himalayan Kingdom. After a reverse trek of 2 km, you find the first ascent - it leads through pine trees and wonderful meadows. The route we come across Jele Dzong, a small fort built at an altitude of 3,450 meters. From here, the view allows you to take in ranges of Paro Valley and a few glimpses of Mount Jomolhari far away. After reaching the Altitude temples, about a day from starting out and aiding adaptation at 3400m - A campsite in Jele Dzong is ideal to sleep under starlit skies.
Day 2: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha
Day two is great mix of gentle climb and descent going through rhododendron forests and open ridges. The trail runs along yak pastures and you get an opportunity to see these majestic animals up close. Upon arrival at the Jangchulakha campsite, which is located at an altitude of 3,600 meters, you will have a panoramic view to fully enjoy in all its beauties surrounding mountains and valleys.
Day 3: Jangchulakha to Jimilang Tsho
As the hike goes on, thick forests turn into alpine meadows with sprinklings of wildflowers. This day is centered around Jimilang Tsho that stands top of the list amongst all other lakes with clear water and fleshy trout. The peaceful atmosphere surrounding the lake and set alongside immense peaks makes it a perfect place to reflect , rest and recharge.
Day 4: Jimilang Tsho to Simkotra Tsho
On day four, you will cross a number of high mountain passes from where every step gives you the best views and excellent images, similar to Himalayan range. The trail follows through several pristine lakes such as Janetso and Simkotra Tsho. Here you can see reflections of the mountains in the calm water. At night, spot a campsite high up at Simkotra Tsho (4,110 m) with unobstructed views of the night sky.
Day 5 : Simkotra Tsho to Phajoding
The fifth day of your trek, descent to the ground, across magnificent jungles and charming valleys. The trek ends at Phajoding, a holy monastic complex on the hill facing Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. Phajoding with its ancient monasteries and meditation centers gives you a peek into the spiritual heritage of Bhutan and is an ideal retreat for a long tiring trek.
Day 6: Phajoding to Thimphu
The final leg of the journey is a slow descent through pine forests and typical Bhutanese villages and finally be fetched by our transport here who will take us on to Thimphu, capital of Bhutan. The lively capital stands in sharp contrast to the tranquility of nature during a trek with all modern comforts within easy reach, giving you an opportunity to explore Bhutanese arts and crafts as part of their culture.
